Welcome to the hills of Munnar where tea estates blanket the gentle slopes in their distinct verdant hues. What used to be pure forestland was cultivated by the British Empire into tea estates that have become the mainstay of the region. In addition to tea, this area is also famous for spices that thrive in its cool climes.
This erstwhile summer resort of the British Empire in south India was named “Three Rivers” (Mun- nar) after a confluence of three streams that meet here.
The Eravikulam National Park, the home of the Nilgiri Tahr mountain goat, an endangered species, is located here. When the famed Neelakurinji flower blooms once in twelve years, the slopes of this park are covered with the lavender colour of the flowers, bringing in visitors by the droves
